On Wednesday I took the train to little town called Lauffen am Neckar (Neckar's rhe river). It was told it had walls and a castle and was worth a visit. It also has a lovely church, and the river was great.

| The bridge goes across the island to the Altstadt on the far bank of the Neckar |

| From downstream |
Further downstream was a fallen tree with two kingfishers hanging around. I saw them several times but only got my binocs on one once.
 |
| Interesting park benches, and comfortable, too! See the church again? |
 |
| On the stepping stones |
The Burg (castle) is on the island, and acts as the Rathaus (town hall / council offices). As fas as I could tell, no visits were allowed. Shame. I'd have loved to climb the tower.

| Looking from the Altstadt, with the church behind |
There were some nice old buildings in the Altstadt, and that's where the walls are, too. The area enclosed by the walls is the smallest of any town I've seen so far.

| This house dates from the 1500s |

| Interesting little fountain in the foreground |
 |
| Walls - one corner |
 |
| Another corner. Lauffen is a wine town, hence the vineyard |

I also saw a Little Egret here, a tick for Europe. It's the same one we get in Australia.
