Schloss Ludwigsburg......

I spent a couple of nights in Stuttgart to visit Schloss Ludwigsburg. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't the best, but oh, well. This will be a two part post, as I have too many photos of the gardens!

Completed in 1733, Schloss Ludwigsburg was built as the dwelling of the Dukes of Württemberg. It was modelled on Versailles and built in the Baroque style, but later modified (in the 1700s) to keep it in line with "modern" tastes.

Behind the front, there's a large courtyard, with more buildings joining toe front to the original hunting lodge, which was completed in 1704, and is the oldest part of the complex. Schloss Ludwigsburg was untouched in the wars.

I did a guided tour in English, but photos were not allowed, which was disappointing. Only in the entry and exit rooms of the tour were we allowed to get our cameras out.

All the rest were taken in the hunting lodge at the back

The tour was really good, especially as it rained the whole time we were inside! The final photo was taken from the courtyard, looking at the main entrance, which is on one side.
